Sierra Leone is internationally recognized as one of the poorest countries in the world. Although the country's poverty can be partly attributed to political corruption and misappropriation of resources, the situation in Sierra Leone was made worse by the decade-long rebel incursion, which plagued the country for most of the 1990's. Almost all infrastructure including, schools, hospital and clinic were destroyed with 60% of the youth left uneducated and unemployed.
Youth for Sierra Leone Improvement (YSLI) is a non-profit organization founded by a group of well-rounded individuals, who have the knowledge and passion to improve the lives of the future generations in Sierra Leone. YSLI is devoted to empowering the youths of Sierra Leone through education. YSLI strongly believes that the future of Sierra Leone lies in the hands of its youth. We provide free education for underprivileged orphans and literacy programs for women.
Our volunteers and associates receive extensive training to provide HIV/AIDS individuals with health care and counseling. We network with various intergovernmental organizations and non-governmental organizations; by working collectively, we can create a positive, challenging environment for students to actualize their fullest potential.
In the upcoming months, our organization will be continuously gathering supplies in order to prepare Sierra Leoneans for the rain season. This devastating weather condition occurs during the month of June through early August. Many Sierra Leoneans will be prevented from their everyday tasks due to the rain influx.
The consequences of this weather cannot be underrated. Several families will suffer from food shortages and will be exposed to a higher risk of malaria and other disease outbreaks. Many Sierra Leoneans will lose personal possessions, so our organization is going to provide material support to those families dealing with such loss.
Our organization would be most privileged if we could have your help with this upcoming project. A collection in your area would have a profound effect. The need is immeasurable, so we are shipping as much as we can collect. Medicine, non-perishable food items (can food), used or new clothing, and personal hygienic products such as toothpaste, toothbrush and bath products, are particular items that will be of great use.
Also, a collection of funds is much needed as well, given that all of the items will be shipped. The items will be distributed to underprivileged civilians and an amputee camp in Freetown, Sierra Leone. A scheduled pick-up may be arranged by calling:
